Travel by your side visits Sentosa Singapore

One of the well known tourist spots here in Singapore is the Sentosa Island. Siloso beach, Palawan beach, Merlion statue, Skyline Luge, cable car, Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios are one of its main attractions.

Some of our lakbayerong tropas from Japan and Philippines had their vacation here in Singapore. In their first day, we toured them around the Sentosa Island. Around 3PM, we started traveling to Sentosa via mrt. We took circle line mrt going to HarbourFront station. One thing to note is that HarbourFront station is an interchange of circle (yellow) and purple line. It is also the last station of both mrt lines.

From HarbourFront station, we took Vivo City mall exit. In the third floor of the mall, Sentosa station is located. Unlike circle or purple mrt line, this station is a monorail. It consists of four stations and three of it are in Sentosa island namely Waterfront, Imbiah and Beach station.

Sentosa can also be accessed through SG Cable Car in Keppel Harbour, walking in Sentosa Boardwalk and by car using the bridge that connects the main island to Sentosa island.

We used Sentosa Express Monorail because of its convenience. It is just at the third floor of Vivo City mall and it is just beside Food Republic. Food Republic is like a food court where local hawker and mini stores can be found. We ate first in Food Republic before going to Sentosa. During that time, we were lucky that there is no long queue in this station.

We alighted at Imbiah station. In Imbiah station, Merlin statue, Sentosa Luge and Skyride, Tiger Sky Tower, Singapore Cable car, Sentosa 4D magix and Butterfly park are the attractions near to it. We just took some pictures with Merlion statue and went to Sentosa Luge and Skyride.

Skyride as it goes down the riding area
I have been to Sentosa many times before but this will be my first time to ride the Skyride. First I thought that its just a small cable car suspended in the air a little like what you see in the left picture.

I took this photo when we were waiting for our turn to ride. Notice how slightly it is suspended in the air. Then when its already our turn to ride the cable, the crew said "bilis". Funny because they thought we were all Filipinos. Something I notice is that the cable car is moving continuously so you really have to move fast and sit properly in the cable car.

As we move farther, I started to feel a bit scared. The height is getting higher and higher. I'm not really that scared of heights but the way this cable car looks like makes me feel a bit scared. First of all, there is no seat belt or anything something like that. It only have a metal holder in ftont of you lap. Secondly, there is no flooring or anything that you could step on so becareful if you are wearing loose shoes or sandals, its a long way down and the distance it covers is not that short. Third, if one moves a little, the whole cable car will easily move.

I think it took us around more than a minute to reach the starting point of the Luge.

As we go go down the Skyride, its the same scenario when riding it. You need to go down fast as the cable car is continuously moving.

Now for my favorite Luge. Luge is like a mini raising car that is controlled by pushing the handbars as it goes down the hill. Pulling the handbars will slowdown the car. Holding it towards yourself or completely pushing it is the brake while holding the handbars just between the brakes will make it move. It relies on gravitational pull to move down the hill.

It is still a bit bright when we rode Luge but it seems better if done on night because there are many colorful lights along the track.

After Skyline Luge, we decided to go to Palawan beach. Palawan beach is famous for its suspension bridge that connects sentosa to an islet. There are also two beautiful tall cottages in this islet. Going up the cottages will give you a wonderful view of the bridge and the beaches of Sentosa.

For the beach, the sand is clean. You won't also see any dirt floating around the sea.

Its getting dark and the schedule of Wings of Time is approaching, so from Palawan beach, we walked towards the venue of the lights and sound show.

We arrived there earlier than the schedule of the show, so we checked first the iFLY Singapore. We just checked it out to find how it works. It seems like there's an exhibition going on there that time. Checkout the video I took and see how good they are.

Its 7:40 pm and the show of Wings of Time will start already. There's no queue going inside the show. The show started with the maestro calling his lady singers and the lady singers sing horribly. The maestro became upset and turned back to them. The lady singers decided to practice with the audience. They taught the audience to sing a phrase "Lets just keep on hoping, we just have to keep on loving." After the audience became familiar on how to sing it, they called the maestro and they sing the whole song better. After their singing, the lights and sound show started. Compared to Song of the Sea, the show that was replaced by Wings of Time, for me it has better story. The background nipa huts is also better compared to the diamond-shaped metal background of Wings of Time.

As a whole, Sentosa is a beautiful place to visit for the family. There are so many things you can do and a one day touring in the island is not enough to enjoy all its attractions. There are also other attactions I haven't featured here. Will try to feature it also here.

If you have been to Sentosa, feel free to share your tips and experiences in Sentosa, Singapore.
